HFL 7 Girls Champions of March Madness Tourney at Fisher

The HFL 7 Girls defeated Penfield in the Championship Game of the March Madness Tournament held at St. John Fisher College. The Cougars defeated Penfield 53-35. The HFL 7 Girls had an incredible tournament run playing their best basketball of the season. The team lost their first game to Hilton in overtime. The Cougars regrouped and focused their efforts in playing their opponents full court man to man. The Cougars put enormous pressure on opposing teams that led to many opponent turnovers and easy baskets for the HFL Cougars. The up tempo, full court pressure was the key to victories over Rocher Prep (47-23), Pinnacle of Buffalo (42-25), and Penfield (49-33). Those victories placed the Cougars in the Championship game against a very good Penfield team. The high energy up tempo full court pressure wore down Penfield through the course of the game. The Cougars play basketball at a high level. This was the second tournament championship for the HFL 7 Cougars. The team won the Rochester Bash Tournament held in Hilton during February. Congratulations to Emma Rowe, Melissa Antalek, Alyssa Lewis, Erin Beikirch, Emma Hagreen, Tori Jones, Elise Olivo, Megan Slymon, Emma Gilbert, Rhiannon Demilio, Madison Meehan, Brittany Chamberlain, and Gillian Kurtic, and coaches Todd Jones, Mike Beikirch, and Dave Slymon.

HFL 7 Conclude Successful Elim Season

The HFL 7 Girls concluded a successful Elim League season on Saturday.The Cougars played against predominately 8th grade teams and posted a 7-2 record. The season ended with a HFL 7 victory over Livonia 33-26. Madison Meehan had 13, Elise Olivo 10, Rhiannon Demilio 8, and Megan Slymon 2. The team utilized a man to man defense to build an eight point lead, then switched to a Syracuse-type 2-3 zone that shut down the Livonia Bulldogs. Emma Hagreen controled the middle of the zone with Melissa Antalek , and Emma Rowe and Alyssa Lewis stopped penetration from above. Offensively, the Cougars hit timely jump shots led by Meehan, and around the rim shots by Olivo, Demilio, and Slymon. Lewis, Rowe, and Slymon played wonderfully at the point against the Livonia 2-3 zone triggering sharp passes to our wing shooters. The Cougars will end their basketball season with the March Madness at St. John Fisher College.

HFL 7 Cougars are Champions of the Rochester Bash Tournament

The HFL 7 Cougars are Champions of the Rocheter Bash Tournament held at Hilton High School this weekend. The Cougars lost their opening round game to Hilton Select (36-22), but then defeated Pinnacle of Buffalo(34-24) in the second round and Rochester Prep(33-17) in the third round. The HFL 7 Cougars defeated Hilton Select in the Champioship game 24-16. The Cougars showed incredible courage and mental toughness in the Championship game. The Cougars made adjustments that the Hilton team was unable to react successfully against. It was a wonderful team effort with outstanding defensive play. The Cougars controled the boards and limited Hilton rebounding opportunities. Additionally, the defensive adjustments the Cougars made paid off. Hilton's top two players were held to four points. The Hilton team only made 7 baskets and 2 free throws. The HFL 7 Cougars ran their offensive sets well and converted free throws at crucial times. Finally, the team displayed sportswomanship through the tournament.

 

 

HFL 7 Cougars are Champions of the Rochester Bash Tournament

The HFL 7 Cougars are Champions of the Rocheter Bash Tournament held at Hilton High School this weekend. The Hilton team only made 7 baskets and 2 free throws. The HFL 7 Cougars ran their offensive sets well and converted free throws at crucial times. Over the four game span, Rhiannon Demilio scored 34, Elise Olivo 22, Emma Gilbert 15, Madison Meehan 12, Emma Hagreen 10, Megan Slymon 8, Emma Rowe 6, Alyssa Lewis 4, Tori Jones 2, and Melissa Antalek 2.

 

 

HFL 7 Defeats Warsaw 8

The HFL 7 Cougars defeated Warsaw 25-13. The Cougars pressure full court defense was the difference in the game. Warsaw was larger in size, but the Cougars were quicker and better skilled. The Cougars had a balanced scoring attack. Madison Meehan 6, Elise Olivo 5, Emma Gilbert 4, Megan Slymon 3, Rhiannon Demilio 2, Emma Rowe 2, Tori Jones 1, and Emma Hagreen 1.

HFL7 Defeats Victor 8

The HFL 7 Cougars used an overpowering second half to defeat Victor 36-25. The Cougars trailed Victor 15-14 at halftime. The Cougars played a good first half, yet many of their short range jumpers did not fall. The second half was a different story. With a pressure full court defense and made baskets, the Cougars outscored Victor 22-10. Gillian Kurtic had 14 points. Emma Gilbert added 12. Megan Slymon 4, Brittany Chamberlain 2, Emma Rowe 2, Alyssa Lewis 1, and Elise Olivo 1. It was a well played game by both teams.

HFL 7 Defeats Bloomfield

HFL 7 Cougars defeated Bloomfield 32-9. The Cougars used pressure defense and a fast break offense effectively. The team made excellent decisions in passing to their open teammates. The good decisions created great shot selections on the court. The second half proved to be the difference in the game. The Cougars shots began to drop and the defense wore down Bloomfield. Rhiannon Demilio  and Megan Slymon led the team in scoring with 10 and 8 points respectively. Emma Gilbert had 5, Brittany Chamberlain 4, Elise Olivo 2, Emma Hagreen 2, and Melissa Antalek 1. Alyssa Lewis and Emma Rowe also contributed to the team victory. The team played wonderfully as a group.

HFL 7 Defeats Geneseo 8

The HFL 7 Cougars defeated Geneseo 31-17. The Cougars played a full court pressure defense that led to many Geneseo turnovers. The Cougars effort was outstanding and relentless. Madison Meehan had 7 points. Brittany Chamberlain and Elise Olivo each had 6. Emma Gilbert  4, Emma Hagreen 3, Alyssa Lewis 2, Emma Rowe 2, and Megan Slymon 1. This was another game that balance scoring and defense ruled the day for the Cougars.

HFL 7 Edged By Cananadaigua 8

HFL 7 Cougars were edged by Canandaigua 8 by a score of 26-20. The Cougars got down early on the scoreboard, but made a valiant effort that came up short. The Cougars used a trapping full court press in the second half that caused many Canandaigua turnovers. Brittany Chamberlain, Emma Gilbert, Megan Slymon, and Rhiannon Demilio led the way defensively. Unfortunately poor foul shooting by the Cougars and offensive rebounds by the much larger Canandaigua team hurt HFL 7. Madison Meehan led the squad with 6 ponts. Emma Gilbert added 4, Brittany Chamberlain 3, Rhiannon Demilio, Elise Olivo, and Melissa Antalek had 2 each. Emma Hagreen had 1. The Cougars put forth tremendous effort and a "never say quit" attitude.

HFL 7 Victorious Over Dansville

The HFL 7 Cougars were victorious over Dansville with contributions by all team members. All players scored.Madison Meehan had 6 points. Megan Slymon and Brittany Chamberlain added 4 points apiece. Elise Olivo had 3. Emma Rowe, Melissa Antalek, Alyssa Lewis, Emma Hagreen, and Rhiannon Demilio added 2 points each. Erin Beikirch added 1. The key to the game was the full court pressure defense by the Cougars. The pressure led to easy baskets for the Cougars off Dansville turnovers. The team put forth excellent effort and unselfish teamwork. The last six minutes of the game were crucial. HFL 7 dominated play, controlling the boards and the tempo of the game. In fact, the Cougars held the ball in their offensive set for the last minute and a half of the game.

HFL 7 Team Effort Defeats Avon

HFL 7 Cougars put forth a solid team effort in defeating Avon 28-15. HFL 7 had balanced scoring with each player contributing. Megan Slymon and Gillian Kurtic led the team with 5 points each. Emma Gilbert had 4 and Emma Hagreen 3. Alyssa Lewis, Erin Beikirch, Elise Olivo, Madison Meehan, and Brittany Chamberlain had 2 points apiece. Rhiannon Demilio added 1. The team played solid defense and their fast breaking style of play wore down Avon. The Cougars led throughout the game and maintained a ten point cushion throughout the second half.

HFL 7 Defeats NorthCoast with a Second Half Surge

The HFL 7 Cougars defeated Northcoast 46-41 with a tremendous second half effort. Northcoast led by as many as 12 points in the first half.  The Cougars came out and dominated play in the second half. The Cougar defense led by Erin Beikirch, Brittany Chamberlain, Megan Slymon, and Emma Hagreen led the defense. Northcoast only scored 13 points in the second half, while HFL 7 scored 28. Rhiannon led the scoring with 10 points. Brittany Chamberlain, Elise Olivo, and Madison Meehan had 9 each. Emma Hagreen added 3. Tori Jones and megan Slymon had 2 points a piece. Alyssa Lewis, Melissa Antalek, and Emma Rowe also contributed with important minutes. The HFL 7 Cougars continue to play hard with outstanding effort!

HFL 7 Comes Back in the Second Half Against Eastside

HFL 7 Cougars had a furious second half come back against Eastside but came up short at the end of the game. Eastside started out strong, while the Cougars had a slow start. However, the Cougars stormed back from a seventeen point deficit and cut the lead to nine. Unfortunately, Eastside held on for the victory. Emma Gilbert had 9 points. Rhiannon Demilio 6, and Elise Olivo 5. Brittany Chamberlain and Megan Slymon each had 2 points and played outstanding defense. Tori Jones added 2 and Madison Meehan 1. Erin Beikirch and Emma Hagreen added solid defense and rebounding. Emma Rowe, Melissa Antalek, and Alyssa Lewis also contributed. The Cougars had an outstanding second half. They competed like champions. There was no quit in their effort!

Penfield Edges HFL 7 With No Time On The Clock

Penfield edged HFL 7 with a free throw with no time on the clock. The game was tied 30-30 when the official called a foul with no time remaining. The Penfield player missed the first free throw, but made the second for the Penfield win 31-30. Gillian Kurtic had 12 points. Megan Slymon, Madison Meehan, and Rhiannon Demilio each had 4 points. Emma Hagreen, Emma Gilbert, and Elise Olivo added 2 each. Brittany Chamberlain, Emma Rowe, Meliisa Antalek, Alyssa Lewis, Erin Beikirch, and Tori Jones also contributed.

Eastside Edges HFL 7

Eastside 7 edged HFL 7. Eastside won the game with an offensive rebound and put back as time was expiring in the game. HFL Cougars played hard but came up short. Their effort was fantastic. Madison Meehan led the team with 12 points. Rhiannon Demilio had 8, Emma Gilbert 4, Gillian Kurtic 2, Brittany Chamberlain 2, Elise Olivo 2, and Melissa Antalek 1. Megan Slymon, Tori Jones, Emma Hagreen, Erin Beikirch, Emma Rowe, and Alyssa Lewis contributed to the team effort.

HFL 7 Defeats Victor

The HFL 7 Girl Cougars defeated Victor 43-18 at Victor on Sunday. The keys to the victory were balanced scoring and pressure defense. Gillian Kurtic and Emma Gilbert each scored 7 points. Brittany Chamberlain, Madison Meehan, Melissa Antalek, and Rhiannon Demilio each added 4 points. Tori Jones and Alyssa Lewis had 2 points apiece, while Elise Olivo added 1 point. Megan Slymon, Erin Beikirch, Emma Rowe, and Emma Hagreen played outstanding defense and rebounded well. The Cougars pressured Victor full court, which led to many Victor turnovers and easy baskets for the Cougars. 

Penfield Edges HFL 7

Penfield edged HFL 7 42-38. The HFL Cougars opened the season with a hard fought game against Penfield. The teams swapped leads throughout the game, until the end when Penfield pulled away with the victory. Gillian Kurtic lead the Cougars with 16 points and numerous rebounds. Brittany Chamberlain contributed 12 points and excellent pressure defense which lead to many steals. Emma Gilbert added 6 points and Tori Jones 4 points. Megan Slymon, Emma Hagreen, Erin Beikirch, Melissa Antalek, Alyssa Lewis, and Emma Rowe contributed to the team effort. The team travels to Victor on Sunday for a 1:00 tip off.
