Jessie Stratton

I started playing CYO IN 6th grade for Al Fancher & his son former Cougar stand out Mark Fancher

Special memories of travel ball?

  • My first cyo game ever was against Pinnacle Lutheron & a player named Luon Giles. We played against each other a few times every season & our last meeting ever was as 10th graders & he played for Bishop Kearney. Ultimately we lost the game on two missed free throws from myself but I more than outplayed him in that loss with 22 points, 20 in the second half & our last 13 of the game

Memorable High School highlights?

  • Being part of the 1996/7 Class BB Sectional Championship team. HFL men's first as thus far only sectional championship. & playing with players as Charlie Hoffman, Dan Tobin, Brad Snavlin, Sean Harrigan, Matt Lenehan & Eric Gruschow as well as being coached by Tom Flood, Kevin Neenan & Chuck Webster
  • Playing the state qualifier coming down on the wing & hitting a deep 3 that to my surprise was waved off because it was so deep I shot it from just out of bounds at the War Memorial!
  • At the am shoot around before the title game coach Flood said something to us that I will never forget "you guys have a chance to go the Big House & win a championship an opportunity some guys never get. Leave it all on the floor tonight & let's bring it home. You don't want to be the 50 year old guy remenissing about what you were or what you could of been" -Coach Tom Flood
  • Another great memory I have was during summer basketball camp coach Chuck Webster and I were throwing alley-oops to each other dunking the basketball. Advice for current players? These memories with these teammates hopefully will last forever? But your hs years will go by faster than you think. Don't live with regret, give it all you have push yourself push your teammates everyday to make yourself & your team better.

College Career?

  • I never played college ball. My dream was to play for Syracuse or any Big East school. But sometimes in life things happen and a different path is chosen for us.

Biggest Rivals?

  • Hands down it was Livonia. You could always expect the gym to be packed & the game to be chippy & close.
  • AAU Basketball? I played for a Rochester based team with Chauncey Leslie(Marshall hs) Darryl Heath(penfield) Cameron arterberry(east hs) Jason Rosato(irondiqoiut) Mike Schrader(fairport)
  • Practice habbits: I spent hours working on my jump shot. Ball handling, endurance, strength & fundamentals are also keys to the game. Be a gym rat, I played pick up ball as much as I could where ever I could at the park In HF, cobbs hill, mcc, the Rochester sports garden, livingston athletic center
